I'm Back Baby!Some people choose a good BYOB to save a buck on the bill, I go for them because I get to bring the best part of the meal! The Booze! Choose your favorite place and/or cuisine and then take yourself on a little trip to Total Wine (aka: my Mecca) and pick up a few bottles of wine, a good plum sake or mix and match make your own six pack to bring.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">The BYOB</span></b><br />
A no-brainer BYOB is always Italian, and there is no better place to go then the Italian Market area. May I suggest <a href="http://www.augustbyob.com/" target="_blank">August BYOB</a>? August is a comfy little trattoria located on South 13th street, only open for dinner and only Wednesday - Sunday. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjL-t0uQKza14QCoa44TgE7IPxY_U7Aa2Tu8iMqSIRprrtdXVPMfHrMF9Guem_qqtZF6iHytdm0QeEthp5qffsdAnoogXmVvxlaFw6lVfHo6hKDlaHK_lDSLpLTOJp1uc9QkSraBYzBj4L/s1600/img_7436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjL-t0uQKza14QCoa44TgE7IPxY_U7Aa2Tu8iMqSIRprrtdXVPMfHrMF9Guem_qqtZF6iHytdm0QeEthp5qffsdAnoogXmVvxlaFw6lVfHo6hKDlaHK_lDSLpLTOJp1uc9QkSraBYzBj4L/s320/img_7436.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
In a place like this, I always suggest that you go crazy on the appetizers and get an entree to split. I'd go for the Roasted Red Peppers, Spicy Sausage and Beet Salad for an app, <a href="http://www.augustbyob.com/menus.html" target="_blank">then split the Farfalle Pasta</a> with crab meat, sun dried tomatoes and porcini mushrooms in a light cream sauce. Its the perfect dish to split, the cream sauce dishes can be heavy but not when you're sharing it... it's just enough. <br />
<br />
Italian food and red wine practically go hand in hand... so if you're going to go red I'd go all the way and get a nice Chianti. I suggest a mid priced bottle of La Castellina Chianti. It's a bit on the sweet floral side, however the spice really comes through on your pallet and will pop once paired with the roasted red pepper app and the creamy pasta dish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFHCnVcRo9vMHF2jd1QiiRj9q67KJBFsUqgSKpfOwDYY3aRdkMdR7jmK8FUtq1h32LZc38HnU6Uz9Kb9fSK3Bsmne4PXvD4BX88PAo_KsTY9c_UssYXXrFqJ3WvazWObpKfGeXusqaMUvv/s1600/3_95125750_2_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFHCnVcRo9vMHF2jd1QiiRj9q67KJBFsUqgSKpfOwDYY3aRdkMdR7jmK8FUtq1h32LZc38HnU6Uz9Kb9fSK3Bsmne4PXvD4BX88PAo_KsTY9c_UssYXXrFqJ3WvazWObpKfGeXusqaMUvv/s320/3_95125750_2_3.jpg" width="228" /></a></div><br />
<br />
If Italian isn't your style, no need to worry. Philly's number one tourism site <a href="http://visitphilly.com/">visitphilly.com</a>, has a <a href="http://c0526372.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/Philadelphia-BYOB-Guide-2007.pdf" target="_blank">great City Guide to BYOB's</a>. <br />
<br />
It's my suggestion that you hang out and take in all the BYOB has to offer. Finish a bottle of wine or two, enjoy dessert and the company you're keeping, maybe take a stroll around the city when you're done. Sometimes just dinner and good friends are all you really need for a night out on the town.<br />
<br />
Eat, drink and be merry. Cheers!Megarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10669087574918543336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4975042567931751986.post-73273355563711561822011-05-19T10:15:00.000-07:002011-05-19T10:20:46.613-07:00I think I'll have myself a beer<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So many things Beer related are happening in Philly within the next few months... it's hard not to plan a date revolving around all these great events! </span></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Lets start in Fishtown... yea I said it, Fishtown</span></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Steven Starr, will you ever retire? I think not. Starr Restaurants announced the <a href="http://www.frankfordhall.com/">opening of Frankford Hall, </a>a very urban version of a traditional German Beer Garden. It's located on 1210 Frankford Ave in Fishtown; very up and coming so I hear. Frankford Hall has 9 taps with a great mixture of brews to check out. My favorite part of this is, the food... you get it at the "walk up" counter. Steven.... going so cas[ual], I love it! The good is traditional German. Although I have yet to attend Frankford Hall, I'm really looking forward to the Bavarian bread dumplings and Schnitzel. </span><br />

The sun is shining, the rain is pretty much gone and outside seating is now OPEN! There is nothing better then sitting outside with a good beer or glass of wine, good company and good eats. The outside date is something you can do with a love interest, spouse, or a friend(s). Either way, shake off the cabin fever and head outside!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Where do all the people meet? South Street, South Street!</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There is always a great place to eat outside on South Street. A safe suggestion would be <a href="http://www.bridgetfoys.com/">Bridget Foy's</a> at 200 South Street - the very end, closer to <a href="http://www.uwishunu.com/2010/04/headhouse-square-farmers-market-opens-sunday/">Headhouse Square</a>. B.Foy's has some great outdoor seating with a nice awning/railing combo that will keep you from harsh sun and/or sporadic rain showers while enjoying your meal. Its a great place for Brunch or an early dinner so you can catch the sunset behind you at Penn's Landing. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The <a href="http://www.bridgetfoys.com/menus/dinner-menu/">menu here is quite unique</a>! The Pulled Pork Empanadas, with the Feta White Bean Salad (I like to add Shrimp to mine), and an original <a href="http://www.artofdrink.com/archive/popular-cocktails/the-margarita-recipe/">Margarita to wash it all down</a> is what I like to call a successful afternoon.</span><br />

Yea, you're not kiddin! I think all of us in the Northeast can agree that next year, we're opting for a new Groundhog. It's rough to plan a date this time of year - it looks sunny and nice out but it's still a little cold. The first few weeks of Spring can bring snow and ice - if that's the case, may I suggest burgers, fries and lots of alcohol! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>I Want to Love You... Pretty Young Thing</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><a href="http://www.atthepiazza.com/index.html">The Piazza at Schmidts</a> is Philadelphias newest Jewel. The Piazza is located on North 2nd Street and Germantown Ave, just below Girard. It is an architectural beauty, with some of the best event space in No.Libs. Just about everything is located within the walls of this place; food, drink, music venus, etc. One of the best things about The Piazza is PYT! This burger joint brings a whole new meaning to "Holy Cow", and did I mention Rachael Ray did a spot for her Show there not to long ago?</span><br />

</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Getting back to the important facts... not only can you have your choice of over 15 kinds of burgers and sandwiches, but you can get yourself a <a href="http://www.pytphilly.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Menu-4web.jpg">Milkshake with "Spirit".</a> I would have to suggest The ?uestlove shake created by </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><a href="http://www.citypaper.net/blogs/criticalmass/the_roots_picnic_2011_lineup.html">Philly's Own ?uestlove of The Roots</a>. This shake includes vanilla ice cream, frangelico, and Irish cream liqueur - a mixture to surely leave seeing happy little trees. As much as I love a good burger, I think I'd have to go with </span><a href="http://www.pytphilly.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Menu-3web.jpg" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">PYT's Tomato/Bacon/and Cheddar Grilled Cheese</a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">, even though the heart attack on a Plate - aka The Cheesesteak Pretzel Roll Burger would be reason enough to break my lenten sacrifice of "Don't Eat Like Crap". </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>What a Meal... What Now?</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There are a few options for an after dinner activity. There is always something happening at the <a href="http://www.pytphilly.com/category/backroom/">Backroom@PYT</a>, someone is always spinnin. But if you're in the mood to relax for the rest of the night with a good brew or glass of wine, may <a href="http://www.barferdinand.com/news.html">we suggest Bar Ferdinand</a>? They have a great selection of wines (Red, Rose and White), and a very interesting selection of Beer including Victory, Sly Fox, River Horse and a personal imported favorite, <a href="http://www.barferdinand.com/drink.html">Sole De Cadiz - pilsner with fresh squeezed Orange Juice.</a> Bar Ferdinand has a very "chill out man" kind of look to it. The bars old world feel is a result of the earth toned walls, gorgeous rounded archways, bright mosaics, a few pieces from renowned painter Ben Kamihira, red light lamps, a bar counter made in the <a href="http://www.barferdinand.com/details.html#">"old world process scagliola"</a>, and dried roses hanging sporadically throughout the space. It's definitely the best place to end the night in a very low key fashion.</span><br />

Don't Knock It Till Ya Tried It!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">One of Philly's latest food trends is... the food truck. From Tyson Bees (Chef <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; line-height: 21px;">Tyson Wong Ophaso)</span> to Guapos Tacos (Iron Chef, Jose Garces), the food truck biz is boomin and what a better time then when Spring has almost sprung?</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Truckin'</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There are a <a href="http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Food+Trucks&find_loc=Philadelphia%2C+PA">ton of trucks to pick from</a> these days. Chef's all over are realizing that their target audience is the guy or girl on the go. The way to get peoples butts in seats is to catch their attention first... so get 'em on the go. The food truck is not only convenient but usually reasonable in price. Tyson Bee's food truck is usually located on 33rd and Spruce - right in the heart of University City - from 11:30am to 7pm. As the weather gets warmer <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/tysonbeesphilly">they may move around.</a> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you're in the mood for a<a href="http://www.uwishunu.com/2011/02/jose-garces-set-to-launch-his-latest-venture-this-spring-guapos-tacos-food-truck-serving-mexican-street-food/"> Late Night Snack</a>, Iron Chef <a href="http://garcesgroup.com/">Jose Garces</a> debuted his Food Truck "Guapos Tacos". On March 4, 2011 Garces hit the streets at 13th and Chancellor. No word yet as to where they will be this week, but follow Guapos Tacos on twitter <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/guapostacos">@guapostacos</a> and be sure to hit their next spot!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>I Got My Food Truck, Who Could Ask For Anything More?</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So once you've purchased your Food Truck fare, walk over to the nearest park; my favorite spot in the Spring is Rittenhouse. This time of year there is beautiful foliage blooming, as well as some interesting folks for good people watching. If you can't take it anymore and find yourself finishing your meal on the way to the park... get your liquid dessert! In this city there is a <a href="http://www.starbucks.com/#/new-brand-still---us/814381909001">Starbucks on every corner</a>. Bikini season is sooner then you think, so avoid the Cupcake, <a href="http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Food+Trucks&find_loc=Philadelphia%2C+PA#find_desc=Starbucks">grab an iced Chai Latte</a> and enjoy the city my friends.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The Great and Powerful PhilaDate has spoken, so go drink eat and be merry.</span>Megarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10669087574918543336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4975042567931751986.post-15943955752198762522011-02-28T05:25:00.000-08:002011-02-28T05:25:13.735-08:00The Oscar Date, never a dull moment...<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The winter is starting to fade, but the rain keeps putting a damper on those nights out on the town. Never fear... the OSCAR's are here. The Oscars put my movie watching abilities in to gear. There is nothing better then a few friends on the couch - drink(s) in hand, watching this years Oscar winning films. This just so happens to be a family friendly date as well. If you just can't seem to find a sitter; pop in <a href="http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/toy-story-3-wins-best-animated-film-02-28-2011">Toy Story 3</a> and when the kids fall asleep you can slip on <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/inception/">Inception</a>!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Dinner Comes First:</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So living near or in the city, there are so many options for a great meal. I'm sure PhilaDate has mentioned this before, but <a href="http://www.diningin.com/">www.diningin.com</a> is one of the BEST things to happen to the food scene in a long time! You can get take out from some of the city's BEST establishments! There is a feature called "Daily Deals" and here you can find coupons for delivery and food. I don't know about you, but for this Oscar Move Night I'd <a href="https://www.diningin.com/restaurant/deals/philadelphia/19101">take advantage of the Reduced Delivery Rate</a> coupon of $4.99 for <a href="https://www.diningin.com/a-la-carte/restaurant-menu/el-vez/philadelphia/19101/1100006/STARR2011">El Vez</a> or <a href="https://www.diningin.com/a-la-carte/restaurant-menu/continental-mid-town/philadelphia/19101/1100109/STARR2011">The Continental</a>. Who could go wrong with <a href="http://www.ehow.com/martinis-and-margaritas/">Martini's or Margaritas</a>? Not me!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>The Movie:</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">You can go with Netflix if you have a <a href="http://www.netflix.com/HowItWorks">subscription</a>, or you can just head to your local BlockBuster and check out a few movies. I always like to go with the films who have won Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Roles and Best Motion Picture. That is definitely enough cinema to fill up a night... or maybe two!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This date is not only saving you money on<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/01/gas-prices-rising-2011_n_803151.html"> rising gas prices</a>, but it's saving you from a crowd of noisy Phildadelphians and letting you spend time with the people who matter. </span><br />

If that is the case, this city is your oyster! I've recently discovered the amazingness that is 13th street between Chestnut and Sansom - "Marcie Turney and Valerie Sufran are the pioneering entrepreneurs whose 6 restaurants & boutiques on 13th street in Philadelphia have helped transform the once desolate neighborhood in to trendy mid-town village". These ladies own three of my favorite restaurants (<a href="http://www.lolitabyob.com/lolita/">Lolita,</a> <a href="http://www.barbuzzo.com/barbuzzo/">Barbuzzo</a>, and <a href="http://www.bindibyob.com/bindi/">Bindi</a>) and one very funky clothing/accessories/knick-knacks/Chocolate/Flowers store that I just can't get enough of; <a href="http://www.verdephiladelphia.com/verde/">Verde</a>. This Valentines Day, <a href="http://www.uwishunu.com/2011/02/verde-is-hosting-a-valentines-beer-and-chocolate-shopping-event-february-13/">Verde is hosting a Beer and Chocolate Shopping Event</a>! This Sunday, February 13th don't miss out! For more information on Verde, check out their blog at <a href="http://www.verdephiladelphia.blogspot.com/">http://www.verdephiladelphia.blogspot.com/</a></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></u></b><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The Main Event:</span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you live near a train station, my suggestion is... take it in to the city! I'd get off at Suburban Station and walk on over to 13th between Sansom and Chestnut. You can't miss this block, it's so hip, it's just oozing with funky friendly people. Once you get to Verde, Chef Turney and Sufran will have a keg of Yards Love Stout (how appropriate) tapped. Grab a free beer, and peruse the store... I'll tell you it's where <a href="http://www.weheartphilly.com/">I got my Philly Heart's Me t-shirt</a>. Be sure to purchase some of that delish <a href="http://www.marcieblaine.com/marcieblaine/">Marcie Blaine Chocolate</a> as well. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The Post Game Show:</span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Well since you're already in Mid-Town Village, you may as well go have another beer and a<a href="http://www.barbuzzo.com/barbuzzo/lunch_menu.html"> slice of gourmet pizza</a> at <a href="http://www.barbuzzo.com/barbuzzo/#">Barbuzzo</a>! This "Mediterranean Kitch & Bar" is just the right mix of trend and comfort. The <a href="http://www.barbuzzo.com/barbuzzo/images/bb_bar.jpg">large wood globe lamps hanging over the cherry wood barstools </a>really make for the best atmosphere to relax in on a Sunday afternoon with a good beer and a cute boy... or girl... ya know, whatever you like... I'm not judging.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Valentines Day being on a Monday is the perfect excuse to spend the entire weekend... together... doing everything... or nothing at all. Ok kids... go, eat, drink and be merry!</span>Megarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10669087574918543336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4975042567931751986.post-8272520153920001622010-11-30T07:15:00.000-08:002010-11-30T07:22:09.842-08:00The Holidate!<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Around this time of year the city is jumping with fun Holiday-ish things to do. Take advantage, and bring your date out to celebrate.</span></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></u></b><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I Wanna Be So Jolly People Think I'm Freakin Santa!</span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So I dont know about you but nothing screams CHRISTMAS more then The Nutcracker. That music, the ballet; it's beauty in its purest form. The score just makes you feel happy, almost childlike. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><a href="http://www.kimmelcenter.org/events/?venue=1">The Kimmel Center</a>; one of the Philly's most incredible pieces of modern architecture, will be hosting The Nutcracker from <b>December 4th to the 31st.</b> Show times range anywhere from 11am to 7pm. My suggestion would be to go to a 7pm show! The city at night, during the holidays is spectacular.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></u></b><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Ok I See Visions of Sugar Plums Dancin' In My Belly!</span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Don't go too far... because one of the best views of Broad Street, where the Kimmel Center is located, is from <a href="http://www.varalliusa.com/">Upstares at Varralli</a> on the corner of Broad and Locust. There are actually two restaurants in this location - Upstares and Sotto Varralli. If you want the view... you bes get yo butt Upstares. If you haven't guessed it is Italian cuisine; a timeless classic genre. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">My suggestion is to do the <a href="http://www.varalliusa.com/">Tasting Menu</a> - you can pair it with their wine suggestions for just $60 per person. I know you're thinking "that's a bit much!", it's really not though. Check out the tasting menu and you'll instantly see the deal! If you'd like the skip the wine, that is an option which brings the price to $45 per person.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">One thing you will notice in this restaurant is the incredible Mosaic Art. In June of 2003, the restaurants owner Joseph Varalli unveiled one of <a href="http://www.varalliusa.com/glassintro.php">Americas largest glass fusion mosaic projects</a> in HIS restaurant! It really does make the atmosphere and view of Broad Street 100 times more breathtaking then ever imagined. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">That is all for today kids... go... be merry... eat food.... drink wine... stand under the mistletoe... give a kiss or two.... and laugh as loud as humanly possible. </span></b>Megarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10669087574918543336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4975042567931751986.post-14522239281611568102010-11-17T07:55:00.000-08:002010-11-17T07:59:08.009-08:00Guest Blogger from New York, New York!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Today's and the first ever guest blog comes from Charlotte. Char currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and frequents areas all over New York City. Her suggestion today - Italian food is the way to feel at home in the Big Apple.... </b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><br />
</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Hey Tony, Lemme Get Some Of Dat Bisketti</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"></span><br />
<div style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">"As a friend and I were wandering around Union Square last Saturday looking for a nice place to eat without breaking the bank, we came across a "hole in the wall" Italian joint. The name of the place is <i><a href="http://www.paulandjimmys.com/index.html">Paul and Jimmy's</a></i><b>,</b> located on 18th and Irving. </span></div><div style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">It doesn't look like much at first, but once we walked in, there was no where else we could even possibly think of going! Being from Philadelphia/Philly Area, my friend and I were a far cry from home but places like this really put you in that Back At Home mindset. We were immediately warmed by the homeyness of the establishment. Kind of like walking into Mom's house with gravy cooking on the stove.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">Right away we were greeted by two gorgeous and mannerly "right off the boat" Italian men. We were seated, given water and complimentary bruscetta. We decided it was going to be one of those "... eh just get a bottle" kind of nights. After ordering a bottle of wine, our server explained to us the importance of looking at the cork and how you can tell if the wine is bad or not just by doing so. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">As we drank our wine and took in the low-key, amorous ambiance we both discussed what a perfect date night place this would be. We noticed a large Italian family in the back of the restaurant reminscing and saying things like "I am a very emotional man, I want to take care of my family". They were passing around plates of food and gushing over the rich red wine. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">Our meals came and we couldn't have been more please if we tried. The pasta and vegeatables in my friend's primavera were roasted to perfection. My dish had an exquisite combination of penne, sun dried tomatoes, and artichokes in a thin red sauce. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;">To finish the night, we indulged in coffee and a canoli-- aka, heaven on earth. All in all, we each spent about $30 for an unbelievable meal. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><br />

But bringing that kind of feeling to a date in say November or December can really spice things up!</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>We Need Some Tacos....Rápidamente!</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There are some really amazing places for all kinds of Latin cuisine around the city. Anywhere from Cuban, to Mexican and some fusion menus as well. But I love the small cantina kind of feeling when I think "Latin". So for an intimate delish meal, I'd head over to Girard between 4th and 5th for Some <a href="http://www.lascazuelas.net/Index.html">Mole Poblano at Las Cazuelas!</a> The colorful building and interior will definitely make your winter depression say bye bye, if only just for a few hours! It is a BYOB, so my suggestion to you is to do a bit of research on what wine goes BEST with Enchiladas! Or better yet, grab a six pack of <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.hulahangout.com/catalog/PacBuck.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.hulahangout.com/servlet/the-122/pacifico-clara-corona-extra/Detail&usg=__kLKI9Iv4OW69Qsgq-4yaL0JGdho=&h=450&w=360&sz=99&hl=en&start=0&sig2=Fb8H11xQb5qT9ZOGQtMdZg&zoom=1&tbnid=7Y0JVQdUE-bxaM:&tbnh=146&tbnw=116&ei=3sfaTLirI4GC8gagsuGrCQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpacifico%2Bbeer%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1328%26bih%3D872%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=305&vpy=195&dur=3325&hovh=251&hovw=201&tx=120&ty=153&oei=3sfaTLirI4GC8gagsuGrCQ&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=29&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0">Pacifico!</a></span><br />

</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Ok... Tacos were inhaled... now what?</u></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">What a better way to spice things up then SALSA! To you guys who say - I could NEVER - I promise you this will score you big points! Chicks LOVE to dance. A man who can salsa with his lady will be one satisfied man, if you know what I mean!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">After you're finished with Las Cazuelas, jump in a cab and head to <a href="http://www.brasilsnightclub-philly.com/">BRASILS in Old City!</a> Not only do they teach salsa classes (which could also be a good thing to do PRIOR to the actual dancing date), but they spin Salsa, Merengue, Bachata! Wednesdays they have $4 Margaritas... so take the day off on Thursday... even though I do NOT recommend getting sloshed if this is a First, Second or even THIRD date!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>This was a short but sweet encounter, Philly... go get spicy in the city and report back!</b></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Check out <a href="http://livingsocial.com/">Living Social Philadelphia</a>! Ain't nothin but a Pub Thang... and <a href="http://www.bardsirishbar.com/">The Bards</a> has some of the best Pub Fare in the city! Located on Walnut and 21st (right next to the Irish Pub) The Bards is a small intimate Irish Pub with a REAL feel of Ireland. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you pick up the Living Social deal today you'll get Two Apps, Two Entree's, Two Desserts and a bottle of wine for only $33.... and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9F5xcpjDMU&ob=av2e">ya can't beat that wit a bat!</a> My suggestion is to definitely get an order of curry fries, Guinness BBQ Short Rib sammie, and clearly... the Guinness Bread Pudding!</span><br />

GROUP DATE!!!!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">I</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span">t's nice to go out with that someone special BUT it's even better if you go out with FIVE someone specials. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span">Group dates are always a good time, whether it be with other couples or just your group of friends. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Out of Amis (which <i>Bon Apettit </i>named One of the Top Ten places for Pasta in the U.S.), Osteria, and Vetri Ristorante... I'd have to say the very first of all of them, <a href="http://www.vetriristorante.com/index.php?a=degustazione"><b>Vetri is my favorite.</b></a> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Having spent time in Italy cooking with the gods and perfecting his skills, Marc Vetri opened Vetri Ristorante in 1998. For you foodies, Vetri is located at 1312 Spruce Street the former first spot of Georges Perrier's Le Bec-Fin back in the 70's.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The reason I picked this small, quaint place in Washington Square West is because on weekend nights Vetri ONLY does Chef's Tastings. These sell out quick, but if you are lucky enough to reserve a spot for Chef's Tasting </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">(largest party is of 6, they keep it intimate)</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">, you will NOT be disappointed. </span></div><meta charset="utf-8"></meta><br />
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Vetri refers to the tasting as "Degustazione"<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #71594e; line-height: 17px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;">(Day-Goo-Statz-EE-Oh-Neh), which literally means "tasting" in Italian. The neat thing about Degustazione is the Chef's uses this as a chance to create new dishes. They use what's in season at the Market and it is all locally grown/produced ingredients (I'm guessing he takes a trip down to 9th Street). </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The <i>Pie de Resistance</i>; Marc Vetri hand PAINTS a menu for each table involved in Degustazione! <b><a href="http://www.vetriristorante.com/index.php?a=degustazione">Check These Out!</a></b></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Damn that was good eatin... Where To Now?</u></b></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">After eating your weight in Italian cuisine, I'm sure you're going to want to rest. THERE'S NO RESTING ON DATE NIGHT! So before everyone passes out in a food coma, hop a cab! Point the cabby to 2nd and Poplar aka <a href="http://www.northbowlphilly.com/index.php"><b>NORTH BOWL</b></a> and finish the night off with retro bowling! </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There ain't a hipster in town that hasn't been to this place. Downstairs you have a bar, lanes, and probably some of the most amazing tatter tots you've ever had! Not that you'd be hungry after Vetri, but if you want a little late night snack - North Bowl's tatter tot menu (that's right it gets a whole section of the menu) is extravagant! <b>My suggestion - The Mazel Tots. YES!</b></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you're not in to bowling it's cool, man. North Bowl has great drink specials. There are also billiards and arcade games upstairs... oh yea and a few more lanes just incase you decide to bowl. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Pasta and Bowling... Can't Go Wrong!</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 17px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />

There is nothing wrong with goin' old school. Dates don't always have to be filled with an activity every second you're spending with each other. It's nice to have a sit, relax and just be. </span></span></span><br />
<div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Where To Go For Dinner?</u></b></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">My suggestion is go to a place where you can get a great gourmet pizza and a good glass of red wine. There is just something about pizza and wine; it</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">'s a good Friday Night "I totally need this after the week I had" kind of meal.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">My favorite place for a Pizza and Wine dinner is <a href="http://www.pietrospizza.com/home.asp">Pietro's Pizza on Walnut in Rittenhouse</a>. You can sit down, either by the window for people watching, or in the back for a more personal dining experience. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you want to order a bunch of appetizers to split, this is the place to do it! They have fantastic Calamari (aka. Gah-La-Mod for you Philly Italian/Americans that make up words. I got nothin but love for "yous"), Bruchetta and Mussels in White. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Their entrees are amazing but I really go here for the Coal Oven Pizza. The Pietro's Classic is possibly the most amazing thing I've ever put in my mouth (get your minds OUT of the gutter and ON to the curb). This pizza consists of Smoked Mozzarella (Moozt-A-Rel), Prosciutto (Pra-Shoot), and baby arugala (they just say that). It's heaven paired with a classic glass of Chianti... hold the Fava Beans. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Ok, After Dinner Drinks.....Where To?</u></b></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">For me, this time of year screams FIRE PLACE. Maybe that's because I grew up in a house that had a roaring fireplace October - March for the past 22 years. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The<a href="http://www.visitphilly.com/restaurants-dining/philadelphia/xix-nineteen-at-the-bellevue/"> Lounge at Ninteen in the Bellvue</a> on Broad is the place to go for drinks by the fire. Oh, did I mention its a room with a view? Sitting on the 19th floor of the Bellvue, this lounge is filled with pearls hanging from the ceiling and a natural light you just can't fake. It is especially beautiful at night, when you can see the city light up from a birds eye view. My suggestion is to take in the view, but then grab a seat in one of the comfy chairs in the lounge by the fire. There is something to be said about having drinks at a hotel. It's their job to make you as comfortable as you'd be at home. Win-win!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Pizza, Wine, and drinks by the fire... ahhh I can just hear the </span><i style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Foreigner</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> playing in the background "I WANNA KNOW WHAT LOVE IIIIIIIIIIS".</span></div>Megarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10669087574918543336noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4975042567931751986.post-63178127539544304192010-10-26T10:45:00.000-07:002010-10-26T12:41:11.599-07:00Don't Be Afraid to Brunch Date!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Some hear "Brunch Date" and think.... I'M IN THE FRIEND ZONE! Not always the truth - Brunch is definitely a good 3rd or 4th date option! Since it's probably your first meal of the day, I'd Brunch It first.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Where Do We Brunch It?</span></span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So here is the nice thing about Brunch, you don't have to spend a ton of dough to get a decent meal! I have found that Philly peeps are most relaxed on a Saturday or Sunday morning/early afternoon. You see more jeans 'n' t-shirts walkin' around the streets. So naturally you're going to want to dine in a more relaxed, yet still eclectic atmosphere.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Philly has some funky brunch spots - one of the best is </span><a href="http://www.themorningglorydiner.com/morning_glory_diner___brunch.html" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>Sam's Morning Glory Diner</b></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> on 10th and Fitzwater - Philly's Bella Vista area. This is one place I don't mind waiting, especially while sitting 0n their back pattio. The cobble stones and vine flowers spun around the fenced in patio make for a fantastic outdoor day dining experience! The inside is simple with counter/booth/high top/table seating. You can't miss the open grill area, and my personal fave - the chrome coffee mugs (GENIUS!). </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Lots of homemade items INCLUDING the Ketchup... you heard me, homemade ketchup. My recommendations would be <b>The Breakfast Pizza </b>or<b> the Pecan Waffles with Whipped Peach Butter</b>!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Brunched It... Now What?</span></span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">For those of you who don't know, Philadelphia is known as the "City of Murals". Since 1984, when the Mural Arts Program (or to save me time b/c I'm gonna type this a lot - MAP) began in Philly, there have been over 3,000 murals created all over town; my suggestion - take a tour and check them out!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There are several ways you can go about this. The Mural Arts program provides Mural Tours. You can view some of the Murals by<a href="http://muralarts.tix.com/ScheduleCalendar.asp?OrganizationNumber=2978"> <b>Trolley Tour</b></a>. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There is the new <a href="http://muralarts.tix.com/Event.asp?Event=250406"><b>Love Letter Tour</b></a> beginning and ending at Love Park visitor center. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">You can also walk it! The <a href="http://muralarts.tix.com/Event.asp?Event=256717"><b>Mural Mile Walk</b></a> takes you through a 2.5 mile tour of 17 different murals throughout the city. You can burn off those Pecan Waffles AND take in these incredible murals too. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Most of the Tours cost $17 per person. All tours are guided by a member of MAP. The Walking Tours usually sell out quickly and are first come first serve. If the guided tours sell out you and your date can (for only $10) rent the MP3 Players with pre-recorded tours, and take the walk yourself. MAP will give you the tour route! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Life is too short not to enjoy Waffles and Wall Art... Philly is the perfect spot for both. Soak it up, Kids.</span>Megarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10669087574918543336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4975042567931751986.post-58964308649333045672010-10-25T10:38:00.000-07:002010-10-25T10:38:53.306-07:00It's Almost Comedy Month in Philly-Celebrate With Your Date!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">A great way to break the ice with someone new is a good laugh! <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Philly Improv Festival November 1st-17th.</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> Tickets to each show are $10, but you can get a nightly pass to see all the shows for the night at $25 OR a Monthly Pass to the entire festival! Usually I suggest the event first then dinner - but in this case it depends on the showtime. Times range anywhere from 7:30pm to a 10pm start so be sure to check out<b> <a href="http://www.phif.org/">http://www.phif.org/</a></b> for times and what groups will be performing!</span><br />
<meta charset="utf-8"></meta><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Philly Sketchfest is November 8th-14th</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">. Tickets prices are TBD (probably around the $10 mark) as of now, so keep an eye out on <b><a href="http://www.philly-sketchfest.com/Sketchfest_Home.html">http://www.philly-sketchfest.com/</a>. </b> Again show times range from early to late so be sure to check out the website so you can plan for dinner accordingly.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />

<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">TICKETS ARE FREE</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> If you bring a canned good or two for <a href="http://www.philabundance.org/" style="font-weight: bold;">Philabundance </a>to the door at Helium.</span><br />

</span><br />
<b><u><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Ok Nooooow You Can Go To Dinner</span></span></u></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you're celebrating comedy month over at the Shakespeare Theater on Sansom, my suggestion is to walk a few blocks over to <a href="http://www.villagewhiskey.com/">Village Whiskey. </a></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Once again my main man, Jose Garces has established a top notch eatery. Having opened their doors in 2009, Village Whiskey is still new to the Rittenhouse area. Owner and Chef Jose Garces is not so new... he's a household name around Philly now of days. My recommendation is the Village Burger, you can NEVER go wrong with a good burger! Maybe top that dinner off with one of the many Whiskey's on their menu - my personal favorite Johnny Walk Green Label. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If you stop in to Helium this Wednesday to see Pat House and Joe DeRosa I'd stay at Helium for dinner! They've got a great menu with some rather interesting selections - may I recommend the <b><a href="http://www.heliumcomedy.com/helium-menu.asp">Crostini's and Margarita Pizza</a></b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: large;"><strong><u>The All-In-One Date</u></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">Today (Saturday Oct. 23rd) at the Market and Shops at the Comcast Center is the....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">Blues, BBQ and Bourbon Festival! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">Admission is FREE and it goes from noon to 2pm, so what are you still doing reading this???? Head on down!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">For more information on the festival, check out <a href="http://www.themarketatcomcastcenter.com/"><strong>The Market & Shops at Comcast Center</strong></a> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">I dont know about you, but after all that Bourbon and BBQ I'd need a coffee! Walk a few blocks up to the Starbucks on 19th and Chestnut... and grab a Pumpkin Spiced Lattee or my personal fave, the Salted Carmel HoCho (another name for Hot Chocolate). </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">It's gonna be a beautiful weekend out so, with coffee in hand, walk on over to Rittenhouse Park and just hang out!!! Soak up the sun, THIS city in the fall is perfection. People watching on a beautiful day is probably one of the BEST activities for a Satruday afternoon.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">And since you're already there... go get a spot at the <a href="http://www.irishpubphilly.com/index.php">Irish Pub On 20th</a> across the street for <strong>Game 6 of the NLCS Phillies vs. Giants at 7:30</strong>! Get a big booth, call a few friends and watch our boys bring it to SAN FRAN! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">There is NOTHING wrong with hanging out with friends after a long day date - as long as your date is ok with it!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">My suggestion for this day date... take the train in to the city. With all that is going on this weekend in the P.H.I, SEPTA is the way to go! PPA will be out in full force and nothing ruins a great date then taking time out to feed the meter!</span><br />

The service is impeccable, the menu is impressive (to see and to taste) as is the Wine List. My personal favorite is the Chateau du Trignon Cotes-Du-Rhone; a soft red with hints of thyme. Pairs really well with the Restaurants Steak Au Poivre. Always leave room for dessert... I'm a Creme Brulee freak, but all the desserts looked scrumptious. </span><br />
